She’s Almost A Teenager

Almost a teenager

A Guide to Meaningful Parent-Daughter Conversations

Your daughter is growing up. There are so many issues she’ll face, such as body image, confusion about relationships, and taking ownership of her spiritual life. How do you connect with her on the things that are important to both of you? This structured approach to conversations and activities with your girl will make it easier to have those memorable times together. You’ll find practical ways to encourage her in her faith, talk about the challenges she faces in school and with friends, and remind her that you love her dearly.

She’s Almost A Teenager┬áis a simple and sweet book that is not only meant to get your soon to be teenager thinking but her parents as well. Now Ash just turned 13, so we are here. Also being my first teenager, this is new territory. I have heard lots of things like:

-Well you know teenagers

-Ugh teenagers are horrible, can we send them away!

-Don’t worry this to shall pass

I didn’t want to go into parenting the teenage years with a bad attitude. Because honestly bad attitudes can be contagious. That is why I liked this book. It was about challenging your daughter. For example “What does it mean to be a (insert last name) women?” I liked the open ended questions at the end of every chapter.

Another favorite question came in the “Body Talk” chapter. “Is it sexy or is it lovely?” LOVED that and the authors reasoning behind it. Now I will admit Ash looked at me like I was a little crazy when I asked her some of these questions, but eventually she came back and wanted to talk about them. (Silly introvert and thinker like her daddy)

Overall I think this book is a good starting point for someone (like me!!) just starting off in this teenage parenting thing. But I will go in with a positive attitude and strap in and enjoy the ride. There are just a few precious years left of her under my roof and no amount of crazy will stop me from seeing the joy that can come with the teenage years as well.
