While living in the Middle East, the Medearis family shared Jesus’ love in many challenging, even life-threatening situations. It wasn’t always easy, but God never left their side. More than just their story, this book is a guide to help you step out in bold faith. Whatever the call of Jesus is for you, it’s time to begin your own adventure! Learn how to put fear in the backseat and give God the wheel. Enormous blessings lie ahead when you dare to say yes.
I remember a little over a year ago calling my own mother after a particularly frustrating day with the children and asking her “Will I ever say anything but NO!” So when I first saw the title of Carl Medearis new book, I will admit the title just grabbed me.
Then I opened this mini adventure and started reading and it sucked me in. All that kept ringing in my head through this entire book was a verse from James (which is one of my favorite books of the Bible):
But above all, my brothers, do not swear, either by heaven or by earth or by any other oath, but let your “yes” be yes and your “no” be no, so that you may not fall under condemnation.
But it can’t be that simple either because on pg. 70 Medearis says “But know that it’s the first yes, followed by a string of yeses, that actually lead somewhere.” Oh I loved those words.
Adventures In Saying Yes is filled with short chapters and quick true stories of events that have happened to Carl, his wife Chris, their children, and friends of theirs. But don’t mistake the short chapters and easy writing for lack of authenticity. Some of these stories had me in tears, others left me laughing (ie the chapter on Becoming Fools For Christ), and then there were the stories that just left me asking myself if that really happened?!?!
But there is just something real about this book that gripped me. I loved it and will definitely be recommending this book to friends. His examples I believe can relate to anyone, even if you are just a momma like me trying to raise your family to love Jesus.
