Facing The Blitz

facing the blitz

During a life “blitz,” when everything seems like it’s collapsing—financially, relationally, spiritually, and physically—you can do more than just survive! Sharing lessons he’s learned on and off the football field, Kemp reveals how having the right mindset can turn unnecessary fear and misery into courage, growth, and joy. Includes end-of-chapter reflection questions. Foreword by Tony Dungy.

I love football. It is by far my favorite sport. Yes one of my husband’s requirements when we got married was not to be a Packers fan. Well he ended up being a Brown’s fan. I guess that is ok. 🙂 I guess that is why when I saw Jeff Kemp’s new book Facing The Blitz I knew I had to read it.

While most of what I read I have heard before, I really liked the way Kemp wrote it. It was clear, concise, and made sense. Each chapter was well organized and written. I really liked at the end of each chapter there were application questions.

Kemp had three simple strategies in his book:

1. Take a long term view

2. Be willing to change

3. Reach out to others

One thing that struck me was right from the beginning  was just the positive feel this book had. It focuses on bettering your view of bad situations and how you can improve them. It guarantees pretty much that you will face many blitzes in your life but simple things will help you face them.

My favorite chapter had to be Invest in Your Home Team. It is just good to be reminded (again) how important it is to invest  in one’s home life. I know even for me, a homeschooling mom, who is home all day with kids that even I can get caught up in the to-do list and forget sometimes that I am training them to live a Godly life, not just to do what I tell them. I need to remember that I am mom first.

Overall this is a good book. Simple yet deep. I loved all the examples that Kemp gave as well as people and stories he drew from. It could be a good book for either male or female. Definitely worth the read.
