In the shadow of the nation’s capital, Kate Livingston’s respectable life as a government worker is disrupted by an encounter with the insufferable Trevor McDonough, the one man she’d hoped never to see again. A Harvard-trained physician, Trevor never showed the tiniest flicker of interest in Kate, and business is the only reason he has sought her out now.
Despite her misgivings, Kate agrees to Trevor’s risky proposal to join him in his work to find a cure for tuberculosis. As Kate begins to unlock the mysteries of Trevor’s past, his hidden depths fascinate her. However, a shadowy enemy lies in wait and Trevor’s closely guarded secrets are darker than she ever suspected.
As revelations from the past threaten to destroy their careers, their dreams, and even their lives, Trevor and Kate find themselves in a painfully impossible situation. With everything to lose, they must find the strength to trust that hope and love can prevail over all.
I think I am on a roll lately with finding good fiction to read!! Just finished Elizabeth Camden’s newest novel With Every Breath and it was her best to date! With Every Breath is fun, witty, and a fast paced book that keeps one interested the whole way through.
What can I say about Trevor McDonough? Well I know it wont be anything bad. I loved him as the main character. There is just something intriguing about a man that is determined to follow God’s calling in his life. That is exactly what Trevor is doing. He is convinced that God has called him to find a cure for tuberculosis. I must say I do love how Camden not only focused on the medicine of curing the disease but also some natural remedies such as diet and being in the sun. (Don’t worry not a spoiler)
Another thing I love about Camden’s writing style is the way she writes her female lead. Camden has this unique ability to make them strong yet vulnerable at the same time, without the whole damsel in distress thing that drives me nuts. Kate Livingston was no exception. She is a very smart, determined women who is not afraid to “slay dragons.” But can Kate move on from her fears of loss?
With Every Breath is fast paced and witty. It is a quick read but has such historical richness that stays with you even after you close the book. I have really frown to enjoy reading Camden’s books and look forward to reading more from her. I really did like this book and definitely recommend it.
