A relaxing day of rock climbing takes a disturbing turn when Kayden McKenna’s route brings her face-to-face with a dead climber. Is it a terrible accident or something darker? When the case is handed to overburdened sheriff Landon Grainger, he turns to Jake Westin for help. With Jake’s past now revealed, he’s ready to use his talent for investigation again–but he could never prepare for where the mystery will take him.
Kayden’s climbing expertise soon leads her and Jake to the realization that the death was no accident. And worse, it seems the killer is onto them. When strange things begin happening in Yancey, Jake is terrified that once again his world may put someone he loves in danger. But the truth is far worse than he could ever imagine.
Ok, so I finished this book over a week ago now but since we are finishing up school this week I had no time to write to tell you how much I LOVED THIS BOOK!!!! Seriously, Dani Pettrey has done it again with the fourth installment of the Alaskan Courage Series. Dani’s new book Silenced was amazing. She truly just keeps getting better and better.
Dani picks up right where she left off but Silenced highlights Kayden and Jake’s story. A story that I have been waiting to read since Pettrey’s first book in the series. There was something mysterious about Jake from the beginning and was thrilled to find out his back story and get inside his head. His love for being a policeman never stopped and his skills are all still there in this book.
Kayden has also always been a favorite of mine. I think of all the girls Pettrey has written about I can relate to her the most. She has a hard exterior and a fear of letting people in. But will Kayden let Jake through that tough exterior?? Of course she does!! Don’t worry that isn’t a spoiler. It is how Jake breaks through Kayden’s barriers that make this book worth reading.
One of my favorite parts of the book had to have been the wedding! Cole’s and Bailey’s of course! I just loved how Pettrey described the way Jake and Kayden were feeling while they danced. It just seemed amazing. If you click here it will take you to Pettrey’s website to all the book extras including soundtracks and Pinterest ideas for the weddings. So fun!!
I must say knowing that there is only going to be one more in the Alaskan Courage Series makes me a little sad. Knowing that I only have Reef to read about gets me a little weepy. (Which it has been announced that Reef’s story will be out February of 2015!!) So I was excited last week when it was also announced that Pettrey has also signed on to write another series for Bethany House!!! The entire Alaskan Courage Series is a MUST read. It is not an easy thing to write Contemporary Christian Fiction well.
One of the things I must say in defense of Pettrey is that her writing is not to dark. I have read some reviews by some of her readers that claim her writing is a bit dark for a Christian author. As Christians we live in a fallen world. Its important to remember that we are the light in the darkness. We are all going through something, sometimes horrific things. Its important to turn to God no matter the circumstances. That is what the McKenna siblings did. They pulled together for each other and had no doubt that God had their backs. Love this family.
Overall, Dani Pettrey is an fun and refreshing author. I love her style of writing. I love her characters. I love just the flavor she brings to her work. I can’t wait for the final book.
