Shattered

shattered

When her prodigal brother Reef’s return to Yancey, Alaska, is shattered by his arrest for murder, Piper McKenna is determined to protect him.

Deputy Landon Grainger loves the McKennas like family, but he’s also sworn to find the truth. And he knows those closest to you have the power to deceive you the most. With his sheriff pushing for a quick conviction, some unexpected leads complicate the investigation, and pursuing the truth puts Landon’s career in jeopardy.

When Piper launches her own investigation, Landon realizes he must protect her from herself–and whatever complications await as the two follow clues deep into Canada’s rugged backcountry. Not only does their long friendship seem to be turning into something more, but this dangerous case is becoming deadlier with each step.

I have been waiting patiently ( well maybe not completely patiently) for Dani Pettrey’s new book Shattered. Now its here!! Well I will ¬†admit that as soon as I could I sat down and devoured this second book in Pettrey’s Alaskan Courage series. Also, I just recently found out that there will be five total for this series, one for every McKenna sibling!!

Anyway, so Shattered picks up a few months after the ending of Submerged. Piper has already started dating someone even though her and Landon’s chemistry was evident in the first book. As expected Piper dating someone is driving Landon crazy. But it all starts to blow up in their face when Pipers brother shows up, covered in blood, then soon after, is arrested for murdering his on again off again “girlfriend”.

So of course Piper (who never lets things lie and always follows her gut) is determined to prove her brother’s innocence. Landon agrees that something doesn’t sit right about the case and continues to investigate as well. The two join together (along with the other McKenna siblings) and go on a adventure that takes them up and down the west coast.

Now I wont get too much into the story line because for books like this I know I can’t stand spoilers. But lets just say the story line is adventurous and still believable. Real people doing real things for the ones they love. I also love how well Pettrey sets up the third book in the series. While I admit I was hoping for Kayden and Jake, Gage and Darcy will make a good pair as well.

On a side note, Pettrey has a fun part to her website that as a reader I loved seeing. It has bio’s and pictures of the characters. Also has pictures of some of the areas that are talked about in her books. Click here and it will take you there. I do think that Dani Pettrey is an author to watch out for.

I received this book from Bethany House Publishing in exchange for my honest opinion. No other goods were exchanged.
